Cleaning & Preservation Process

DETAIL PRESERVATIONS & CLEANING PROCESS - ANALYSIS

EXPERT ANALYSIS

Just as every bride is unique and special, so is the fabric each dress is made from. For that reason our work begins with a complete inspection of the gown. The gown fabric, dye, weaves, and ornaments including their composition are all analyzed. From our detailed examination, we are able to determine which cleaning method and preservation techniques are best for your particular gown. This ultimately insures that fabrics will retain their shape and will not discolor. The embellishments (beads, sequins, and other trimmings) will remain attached after the cleaning process.

SPECIAL TREATMENT

Depending on what has come in contact with your gown will determine how it needs to be treated. Stains and spills that are not visible with the naked eye will be identified with our in depth testing techniques. Perspiration, makeup, wedding cake and even champagne all have different affects on fabric. Those stains are identified and treated prior to cleaning. If left untreated, brown spots from oxidation over time (months or even years later) could appears from those sugar stains (like those caused by champagne) and chloride salts (perspiration)…end result would be irreversible fabric deterioration. Our process eliminates those stains while protecting fibers of your gown.

It is important that you understand care labels as they often can be misleading or incorrect. Linings and some dress fabrics are known to shrink in water based solutions. Sequins that are composed of a gelatin base will even dissolve if immersed in water. Most natural fibers can be dry cleaned as an appropriate method for cleaning. However, some finishes and dyes can dissolve in standard solvents. Discoloration of buttons and beads made of certain plastics can be the cause of exposure to dry-cleaning solutions. It is due to our extensive knowledge of these delicate garments, that we are able to identify composition, determine specific treatment all with eliminating the risk of any damage during the cleaning process.

THE RIGHT SUPPORT

You care enough to clean and preserve your gown that you want it to last a life time. Packaging of your gown is key to longevity. After cleaning and preservations, finest archival materials available are used to support and protect your gown. Care is taken during the folding process eliminating excessive creasing to further protect the integrity of your garment. The gown is finally adjusted/supported with a form to hold shape and provide an exquisite look through the viewing window.
